It is better explained in novel and manhua Beast from 10-9999 year old don't have much of an intelligence, 10000-99999 year Olds have enough intelligence to understand human language and establish communication in some way , the older they are the better the Intelligence while 100000+ beast can communicate with human and on average have higher intelligence than an average human but this is not absolute and there are exceptions such as human faced demon spider which is powerful enough that a 10000 year old can fight on equal terms with a 100000 year old but that comes at the cost of it's intelligence as a result it is one of the most vicious kind of spirit beast out there and there are also beast that have too high of intelligence than it's age such as 3 eyed golden lion/ auspicious emperor whose intelligence is just godly.
